2014 is the last year to begin participation in the Medicare Meaningful Use Incentive Program and earn incentives.
First-time EPs (Eligible Professionals who have never demonstrated MU), if you have not yet attested for 2014, you may not be able to avoid 2015 Medicare payment adjustment but you still have time to earn the incentives for 2014 and avoid 2016 payment adjustments.
EPs in their second year of MU Stage 1 must demonstrate MU in 2014 to avoid 2016 payment adjustment.
2014 Reporting Period
All providers, regardless of their stage or year of MU, are only required to demonstrate MU for a three-month reporting period in 2014:
- For Medicare providers beyond their first year of MU, the three-month reporting period are fixed to the calendar quarter for EPs (Q1, Q2, Q3, or Q4 of 2014).
- Medicare providers in their first year of MU may select any 90-day reporting period that falls within the 2014 calendar year.
- Medicaid providers may select any 90-day reporting period that falls within the 2014 calendar year.
