Medical Billing & Coding - CodeCorrect

CodeCorrect Services

CodeCorrect is a service that performs a real-time review of the claims and checks them against the
published Medicare edits, thereby minimizing the chances of a claim being rejected. It is a third-party
product that is owned by MedAssets and integrated into eClinicalWorks.

eClinicalWorks provides CodeCorrect services with two different options:

  • Integrated CodeCheck: This service supports both Medicare Part B and Medicare Part A OPPS (Outpatient Prospective Payment System) claim scrubbing for NCCI (National Correct Coding Initiatives), NCD (National Coverage Determinations), LCD (Local Coverage Determinations), MUE (Medically Unlikely Edits), ABN eligibility, and other published Medicare edits. Drill-down functionality within each eCW claim allows users access to historical Medicare policy decisions and manuals related to returned edits. This service provides a real-time check of the claims for appropriate modifiers, CCI edits, code validity, ABN eligibility requirements, and medical necessity verification, among other significant elements.
  • KnowledgeSource PRO®: This service includes all services provided by Integrated CodeCheck. In addition, this service provides individual users login access to a website offering the ability to perform the same code scrubbing available via Integrated CodeCheck. The website access also gives the ability to search for Medicare published documents related to coding and regulatory compliance.

CodeCorrect Product Features:

Online Reference Books - This is an online collection of essential reference books, including: CPT, ICD-9, HCPCS, RVU's, CCI, Modifiers, National Crosswalk, LMRP, and E&M documentation requirements. Unlike paper, you can rapidly search these reference books by CPT.

National and Regional Authoritative Document Updates - Access the last five years of Medicare Newsletters and Medicare Carrier bulletins indexed by CPT for your specific geographic region.

Online Code Check Validation - This tool helps coders 'scrub' charge slips to increase compliance. Includes: proper modifier usage, procedure ordering by RVU for maximum reimbursement, checks bundling errors and verifies proper ICD-9 by region based on Local Medical Review Policy (LMRP).

Online Coding Q&A - Submit coding questions and receive answers from a staff of certified coders. Access a knowledge base of previously posted questions and answers, searchable by keyword and time period.

Web-based Access - Access the application using any Internet-ready PC in your facility, concurrently with other users. Updates to the data and applications are virtually real-time, so you can be sure you’re getting the most up-to-date information available.

Training - At start-up, every client receives training from an expert trainer. Additionally, CodeCorrect provides ongoing weekly training sessions so that new employees can get up-to-speed quickly, and experienced users can get a refresher or learn something new.

Customer Support - Whether you have a question about the application or recommendations on how to improve a CodeCorrect service, you may call and speak directly to a customer support representative, Monday through Friday from 7 am - 5 pm Pacific Time. You may also e-mail your questions or comments anytime, and expect a quick response during normal business hours.

"CodeCorrect is the answer to all your books, including your Correct Coding Initiative, any subscriptions to Medicare Carriers Manual, program memorandum, LMRP's, Federal Register, CPT Assistant and more.

CodeCorrect is an encoder for CPT and ICD-9 but it is so much more. You can look up codes by keywords or by ranges, and you can create custom keywords, to direct your staff to the same codes every time a doctor uses his/her pet names. For example, when my doctor says 'portacath' he is referring to either 36533, 36534 or 36535. So I created a custom 'portacath' keyword to point to those three codes. When my staff put in his words, they get those three codes and know which to select depending on whether it is an insertion, revision or removal. And as CPT is updated, your keywords stay in the system. With my old stand-alone encoder, every time there was an update I lost the keywords I had taken so much time to create.

And you can put comments on codes that are only yours, such as putting in a comment to use G0001 for Medicare under 36415 for your staff. Or making a note that a particular payer does not accept a certain code and prefers a different one, or making sure you use a certain modifier when this code is used, etc. These notes are customizable, and remain in the system for whenever you need them. You can update or change them at any time."

"CodeCorrect is the first online encoder I've used that offers Correct Coding Initiative features (e.g., bundling of codes) - essential in today's health insurance processing. The software is accessible from any computer, so there’s no need to carry a system with you when you travel. Login to CodeCorrect and you're good to go...."
